The tale is told by xua²⁴ pʰɛi³³xo³¹ 华丕和 (HPH), a retired village government official known for his storytelling. It arose spontaneously during an evening’s conversation with pʰv̩³³ zɿ²⁴ɕɛ⁴⁴ 普玉仙 (PYX) and kʰuɛi⁴⁴ li²⁴ 奎丽 (KL), who also join in at various points.
